The school library has more than 6,000 books of mathematics and theoretical physics. The library also subscribes to many journals and electronic databases some of them available through the HEC Digital Library. Papers and theses based on research carried out at the school are also available in the library.

WELCOME TO LIBRARY

The Library of the Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences (ASSMS), GC University Lahore, is a center of scholarly resources in mathematics and supports the School's teaching and research mission. Library holds over 5,500 volumes and subscribes to key mathematical books and journals. It provides access to digital resources and scientific databases through the HEC Digital Library. In Library's collection includes books, journals, conference proceedings preprints, theses, publications, and newspapers.

The Library serves M.Phil/Ph.D. scholars, Post Doctoral Researchers, faculty members, and researchers from other institutions. Its primary function is to provide access to relevant academic resources and information services in support of the School's research mission.

Thesis collection in the ASSMS Library includes MPhil/PhD theses in mathematics, from 2007 to date. PhD theses may not be borrowed, but may be consulted in the library. Presently ASSMS has more than 180 PhD and 27 Mphil Thesis in the different area of Mathematics.

Library Services

Circulation Service

This section provides essential circulation services, including the issue and return of the books, library membership support, fine management, and clearance matters. General books and theses are systematically and openly shelved, while new arrivals are displayed near the notice board. Users can locate required books through the catalogue by author, title, or subject.

Online Public Access Catalogue (within the Library)

The library has a rich collection of books in various areas of Mathematics. The ASSMS OPAC provides bibliographic information. Library users can search the OPAC using the network ID. http://koha.pastic.gov.pk:5127/

Inter-Library Loan (ILL)

If a particular item is not available in our collection, the library can arrange to obtain it from other libraries within the country or abroad through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL request forms are available at the circulation desk.

Reference Services

An active help desk provides efficient and reliable services under the supervision of professional librarians. Users may make queries directly or telephone, and e-mails.

Photocopying Service

The photocopying service is available for the academic staff of Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences ASSMS. The service is outsourced and is also offered to other users on payment of a nominal per-page reproduction fee.

CAS (Current Awareness Services)

Timely delivery of accurate information to the right users is central to effective dissemination of current awareness services and plays a vital role in meeting the research needs of M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars. The Library of Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences ASSMS provides such services to ensure user satisfaction.

Studying: Study areas are available throughout the library, including the ground floor and basement, with a total of 100 seating chairs. These spaces provide a quiet and focused environment for students to study with concentration.

Journals

The Library has long runs of many important serials published by scholarly societies and associations, such as the American Mathematical Society, the Korean Mathematical Society and such other top mathematical societies and academic institute of the world. It has been processed, organized and made accessible for library users through shelving.

Rules & Regulations

  • 1. Three Books will be issued to M.Phil/Phd Scholars of library for the period of Five days.
  • 2. For faculty members 10 Books will be issue for the period of four weeks.
  • 3. For Post Doc Fellows 5 Books will be issue for the period of 10 days.
  • 4. In case any personal reading material has to be taken inside the library, permission must be sought from the Librarian. All reading materials issued to them shall be shown to the official at the exit point before leaving the Library.
  • 5. Members are required to check books etc. at the time of issue. They must draw the attention of the staff at the circulation desk to the defect/damage, if any, in the issuing materials. In case it is not pointed out at the time of issue, the member will be responsible for any damage, detected subsequently.
  • 6. Library material borrowed by any member a subject to recall if needed by the library.
  • 7. No library material is to be taken away from the Library premises unless any member gets it issued against from the circulation desk.
  • 8. Readers and members shall not damage, mark or write upon any book, periodicals, maps, manuscript, nor shall they trace or perform mechanical reproduction of any materials belonging to the library without written permission of the Librarian. Readers and members who violate this regulation shall be required to pay the fine imposed by the Librarian or to replace the damaged materials, or to pay its price as determined by the Librarian.
  • 9. Eating, sleeping, smoking and loudly conversation within the library premises shall be prohibited.
  • 10. Complete silence should be observed except for brief and subdued talk with the library staff.

ASSMS Library Acquiring Policy (Collection Development Policy)

The primary goal of library collection development policy is to acquire and develop the vast array of information resources needed to support the ASSMS curriculum & research. The librarian selects the library material after the recommendation of local/foreign faculty and students. While keeping in view following selection criteria: Users needs and demand; Comprehensive & depth of coverage, scope & content; Relevance to existing collection; Price as well as the ongoing involve in ordering shipping; Physical quality special features; Reliability of the vendors and their service quality.
